FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Your Questions Answered

WHAT IS INTEGRATIVE THERAPY?

Integrative counselling draws on techniques from different types of therapy, to offer an approach unique for you. As an integrative counsellor, I believe that there isn’t just one therapeutic approach that can help a client in all situations. Instead, this approach takes into account your personal experiences, values, spirituality and desires, and uses elements of different approaches to help you explore, understand and cope better with your problems.

This approach is rooted in person-centred therapy. This means the focus of therapy is on you rather than the counsellor; seeing you as the expert on yourself, and aims to help you reach your full potential. I will help you achieve that by following the BACP ethical framework of: accepting and valuing you, being honest and transparent with you and offering you unconditional positive regard.

We may also utilise techniques from psychodynamic therapy. This involves helping you to bring your subconscious into your conscious mind. It helps you become more aware of that which you are unaware of, such as difficult memories and experiences, so you can understand how these deep-rooted feelings impact your experience of and interaction with present and learn how you can cope better with them.

We might also bring in practices of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). This looks at your thoughts, feelings and behaviours and helps you to create positive change by using a variety of practical strategies and tools, such as journaling, mindfulness and reflective activities.

WHAT ARE YOUR FEES?

Online sessions are £55 per session and last for 50 minutes with a free 30 minute consultation. Walk & Talk Therapy sessions are £60 for an hour. There are also limited concession slots available for students or those in receipt of benefits, get in touch if this applies to you.

WHY COMMIT TO FOUR SESSIONS?

Choosing to commit to the first 4 sessions will ensure that you as the client and I as the counsellor can develop a working relationship and a direction for the process established. After the 4th session we can review how we are doing and if you would like to continue. Please note, this is a suggestion and not a requirement of our work.

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF ME AS A CLIENT?

All that I ask is that you arrive as fully present and as open as you can be in that moment. I believe that in relationship is where we can heal and the more that you can give of yourself the more potential for growth.

WALK AND TALK THERAPY FAQs

How is it different from traditional therapy?

Sessions happen outdoors rather than in a therapy room, which people may find more relaxed and less intimidating.

What are the benefits?

Walking and being in nature can reduce stress, ease anxiety, improve mood, and help thoughts flow more naturally. We can carefully incorporate the use of the landscape, animals and objects into the therapeutic work which can aid the process.

Where do sessions take place?

Quiet outdoor locations across South East Wales, sourced by myself and agreed together.

What about bad weather?

If the weather isn’t suitable, we can reschedule or move the session online where possible. I will notify you the day before our session of weather updates.

Do I need to be fit?

No. We walk at a comfortable pace set by you as the client and can stop or sit whenever needed.

Is it confidential?

Routes are chosen carefully and confidentiality is maintained as much as possible. We will discuss and agree together what should happen if others are close by or you see someone you may know. This will be agreed in the Walk and Talk Contract.

Who is it suitable for?

Adults experiencing anxiety, stress, low mood, grief, or feeling stuck.
